Areas of Practice

Members of Chambers practice in the following areas:

Company Law

Members of chambers undertake work in all aspects of the company law field including litigation, advisory work and drafting. Tenants deal with all areas where company law issues may arise including: directors’ duties, shareholders’ disputes, takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reconstructions, loan capital and banking securities, schemes of arrangement, reductions of capital and insurance schemes. Members of Chambers have been heavily involved in advising in relation to the issues arising upon implementation of the Companies Act 2006. Chambers is identified by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as the leading company law set.

Insolvency Law

Erskine Chambers’ standing in the corporate insolvency field is demonstrated by its involvement in the largest and most high-profile insolvencies of recent years. Many Members of Chambers are recommended in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as leaders in the insolvency field. Chambers covers the whole range of insolvency law, with particularly expertise on litigation, advice and reconstruction work.

Commercial Litigation

The set has traditionally attracted substantial litigation work and members advise on and appear in a considerable number of general commercial and professional negligence disputes. Members of Chambers have substantial experience of appearing in the Chancery Division and Commercial Court as well as the appellate courts.

Financial Services

Members of Chambers advise regularly on financial services matters and have particular expertise in relation to applications for the sanction of insurance and banking transfers under Part VII of the Financial Service and Markets Act 2000.

The International Dimension

There is a strong international dimension to Erskine Chambers’ work - the type of businesses on which the set advises and the clients for whom they act inevitably raise issues or involve disputes in other parts of the world. Members of chambers are frequently engaged as experts or advocates in other jurisdictions. Members of Chambers are at the forefront of developing the Court’s jurisdiction to sanction cross-border mergers within the EU.
